How to travel Ayurvedicly

Why travel Ayurvedicly?

Travel increases Vata but also traveling in general promotes poor sleep and bad eating habits.
These are some tips to help travel more Ayurvedicly and feel better and healthier.

Items to bring from home

Insulated Metal Drinking bottle for hot water/tea
Ghee – 3.4 oz
Nasaya Oil
Body Oil 3.4 oz (Coconut Oil or Sesame Seed Oil)
Travel Yoga Mat

Snacks

Fresh Fruits – Apples, Blueberries, Figs, Grapes
Fruit Bars
Dried Fruits – Dates, Raisins
Nuts (Roasted and Soaked) – Almonds(remove skin), Walnuts, Pistachios, Macadamia

Food to avoid

Avoid Deep Fried Foods (French Fries, Chips, Fried Chicken, etc)
Avoid cold foods (Ice Cream, Ice Cold Water, Cold Sandwiches, etc)
Avoid Stale Foods
Avoid highly processed foods (Hot dogs, Soft drinks, Sweetened breakfast cereals)

Herbs & Spices

For sleeping on plane – Ashwaganda , Valerian
Salt, pepper, cumin, cinnamon, star anise, jaggerty (unrefined sugar cane)

General Tips

Do Meditation/Pranayama on plane to relax and rest
Do not sleep during the day, wait until atleast sundown – 7pm-ish
If flying over night, try to sleep as much as possible at night on a plane, avoid staying up
When using hair drying, use only cool setting (Heat is bad for the head)

If your hotel has a kitchen

Bring easy to carry food like rice, oatmeal, yams, garlic, carrot, apples
Bring a container to hold food for lunch time (Metal or Glass container with lid or soup thermos)
